Private Practice PSWs

The OPSWA Private Practice PSW Membership is designed for Personal Support Workers who operate independently or run their own small care services. This membership provides professional recognition, business support, and insurance protection—helping PSWs work confidently while ensuring peace of mind for both themselves and their clients.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Eligible under OPSWA General PSW Membership or OPSWA International PSW Membership
• Registered with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA)
• All applicants are individually verified by OPSWA

Verification may include contacting the school or professional college where training was completed, including international institutions if applicable.

What the Insurance Covers

Commercial General Liability (CGL)

This coverage helps protect you from legal claims related to accidents or property damage.

Examples include:

• Accidentally causing property damagewhile assisting a client (such as during meal preparation)
• Someone tripping over a personal itemand becoming injured

Errors & Omissions (E&O)

This coverage protects you if a client claims injury related to care services you provided.

Examples include assistance with:

• Transfers
• Bathing
• Behavioural support
