PSW Resources

OPSWA in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Long Term Care

In partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Long Term Care, OPSWA is promoting joining Ontario’s PSW workforce.

Professional Guidance & Development

At OPSWA, we continuously strive to provide resources to aid the professional development of Personal Support Workers throughout Ontario. Our goal is to standardize knowledge in PSW policies & responsibilities and provide career & PSW training opportunities for all PSWs.

Are you a new PSW or looking to become a PSW? Visit our Community Resources for more information.

Are you looking to build or expand your knowledge and skills?

The Canadian Support Workers Association has adopted and modified the Code of Conduct from the College of Support Workers Ontario to reflect our shared ethical foundations.

IPAC has various resources for infectious disease control, including COVIDdetect Rapid Testing kits, PSW Emergency Homecare info, and travel & awareness.

Our policies and papers cover various topics, including social media, code of ethics, media relations, self-regulation, and issues impacting PSWs.

The PSW’s Role and Responsibilities have increased slightly, with growth occurring yearly to meet our vulnerable sector’s demands.

Why we no longer use VSS

A Vulnerable Sector Check was the term traditionally used. The Enhanced Check used by OPSWA includes the Standard Criminal Record Check and local police information.

Abuse Reporting

The Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, and the Retirement Homes Act, 2010, mandates that anyone in a facility governed under this legislation MUST report incidents of abuse to the Ministry of Long Term Care.

Reports made to the OPSWA using this form will be communicated directly with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the facility in question and any related parties as required under the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 and the Retirement Homes Act, 2010.

Events

Due to complications from the recent pandemic we regret our annual conference is sadly postponed until Spring of 2021.
