Mental health education is woven throughout the course, equipping participants to identify common co-occurring mental health challenges within the autism community—such as anxiety, depression, trauma responses, and emotional dysregulation—and teaching supportive strategies that prioritize dignity, choice, and self-regulation.
A strong emphasis is placed on professional de-escalation skills. Participants learn proactive approaches to identifying early stress indicators, preventing crisis situations, and responding safely when behaviours escalate. Techniques include trauma-informed communication, calm response strategies, safety planning, and maintaining supportive boundaries. By the end of the course, PSWs are prepared to handle real-world scenarios with confidence and professionalism.
Learners engage with case studies, real-life scenarios, and applied skills practice throughout the day. Upon completion, PSWs will be able to deliver consistent, competent, and compassionate support to neurodiverse individuals across a wide range of environments.
